Abstract

Our study considers the forms and features of participation of non-ferrous metallurgy companies in social and economic development of the regions of their presence using the data about the activities of "Norilsk Nickel" MMC and RUSAL. We describe the historical continuity of the corporate social responsibility, which part of enablers came from the period of planned economics. A classification of the regions of presence is given: each company is typical by the dominance of territories with complex economic situation and niche industries, where more than a half of population is living. This enables the definition of specialties of each company's participation in development of such industries, specified by geographic factor (including the historical periods of transformation of the social contract ("Norilsk Nickel" MMC)). Geographical features of activities of "Norilsk Nickel" MMC (in the Far North) required a compensatory nature of the company programs, typical for the planned economics, and realization of social policy, aimed on the overcoming of the "island" mentality. The welfare work of the regions of presence is considered as a dominating sign of a corporate social responsibility of RUSAL. We defined the community of the spheres of influence, described in the unity of the ways of the companies influence on development of the regions of presence. Nevertheless, each company shows its individual approach for their realization. The probability of the change of the company's participation in development of the regions of presence is defined, connected both with expansion (Bystrinsky GOK) and with curtailment of production (the project "Nickel plant closing"). Each company is licensed as a one with vigorous activity together with various subjects (state and local government, state).
