Abstract
Linear response of the quasi-one-dimensional Peierls conductor to an electric field directed at an arbitrary angle to conducting chains is calculated in the low temperature limit. In the case of transverse polarization the absorption, caused by the electron transitions through the Peierls gap, as well as the plasma effects, can take place only if the wave vector of the Peierls distortion is not parallel to the chains. The strongly anisotropic spectrum of plasma oscillations is obtained.
