Abstract
The authors discuss the results of their investigation of prebreakdown conduction, discharge radiation in the visible spectral region, and vacuum gap breakdown voltage in pulses up to 1 1/2 mV. Experiments were carried out in a technical vacuum using large-area electrodes spaced 60 mm apart. Possible mechanisms for the initial stage of evolution of the discharge in large vacuum gaps are proposed.
