Abstract
The principles of heat-affected zone formation are studied in prequenched steel 45 treated by a low-energy microsecond high-current electron beam in the initial melting mode. It is established, that this zone consists of three characteristic layers. The conditions for the formation of these layers are analyzed on the basis of thermal calculations.
