N2-Cu-F

A complex of dinitrogen and cuprous fluoride characterized by rotational spectroscopy

    Abstract

    (Graph Presented) Dinitrogen bound: A compound formed by dinitrogen with cuprous fluoride has been synthesized by laser ablation of a copper rod in the presence of a source of F atoms and N2. The rotational spectrum of 15N2-Cu-F has been assigned, and the rotational, centrifugal, and nuclear hyperfine coupling constants have been determined. These constants and electronic structure calculations give conclusions about the nature of this novel molecule.
