Modification of the plates of tungsten carbide based hard alloy by a pulsed power ion beam

Abstract

Investigations of surface layers of VK-8 and T5K10 tungsten carbide-based hard alloys treated with power (up to 1-3.75 J/cm2) pulses of ion beam have been carried out. With the help of the methods of scanning tunnel microscopy, X-ray analysis, and surface relief measurements, it was established that the main parameter determining the nature of relief and phase composition of the formed surface layers is an ion beam energy density.
