Abstract
This paper discusses the propagation of an electromagnetic wave through an axially symmetric turbulent plasma flow. The electromagnetic wave is scattered by the strong fluctuations in permittivity which occur as the electron density approaches the critical density. The aim of the present paper is to construct a statistical model for the multiple scattering of an electromagnetic wave by turbulent elements in a plasma. This problem is solved by the Monte Carlo method. It is assumed that the wavelength is less than the dimensions of the flow, and that the scattering by the statistically independent turbulent elements is incoherent in nature. The electromagnetic wave incident on the flow is modeled using rays uniformly distributed in the plane of the wave front and oriented parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave.
