Method for measuring motor speed obtained from the spectral characteristics of current consumption form

Abstract

The article presents a method for motor speed measurement obtained from the spectral characteristics of the current consumption form. The principle is based on the fact that the frequency of the first harmonic of the current spectrum is proportional to the motor speed and is multiples of the number of collector blades. The difference from the known measuring methods of the rotational speed is using an adjustable narrowband filter by frequency and Q-factor for estimating the period of oscillations of the spectrum first harmonic. To implement the presented speed sensor on the microcontroller, an algorithm that includes a closed loop for tuning the frequency and quality factor of the filter is proposed. The alternative to a fast Fourier transform block is also provided for initial setting of the speed measurement system. The results of the experiment performed on the microcontroller AtMega328 are presented.
