The character and the kinetics of formation of a fractal mesoscopic structure and its relationship with the fatigue properties of lead, lead-based alloys, and aluminum were studied. It is shown that the scale, character of the dynamic mesostructure, and the rate of its evolution depend on the shear stability of the material and the possibility for zones of a bend-twist to be formed in it. In turn, this exerts a decisive effect on the fatigue strength of polycrystals. It is concluded that the main mesoscopic mechanism of deformation at the prefracture stage in polycrystals upon cyclic loading is the formation of a fractal mesostructure.
