Magnetic field compression by hollow cylindrical gas puff liner

Abstract

It is useful to examine the process of diffusion of magnetic field from the compressed volume into plasma shell and from the plasma shell into the surrounding vacuum from the standpoint of obtaining ultrahigh magnetic fields. However for the use of gas puff liners as X-ray sources, the effect of the magnetic field on the thermodynamic parameters of plasma is interesting. Through the 1-D RMHD calculations, both problems can be studied. Results of the numerical computations of the axial magnetic field compression by hollow gas puff are presented here. The calculations were carried out for current with an amplitude of 1 MA and risetime of 120 ns.
