Abstract
Rigorous and exact calculations are used to show that in earlier analytic studies of this problem by Barbour et al. [Phys. Rev. 92, 45 (1953)] and Aǐzenberg [Zh. Tekh. Fiz 11, 2079 (1954)], the influence of the electron space charge was not taken into account very accurately. It is shown that the real field of action is much weaker than that calculated geometrically.
