Abstract

Low-energy, high-current electron beam treatment of slow-wave structure was proposed to prevent spontaneous microwave pulse shortening in an X-band relativistic BWO at gigawatt level of output power. As a results, 3-GW, ∼30 ns microwave pulses were produced while the increase in the microwave pulse length and energy was a factor of four.
