Abstract
Results are presented of investigations and visual observations of the process of the disconnection of current by an explosive arc control device - a model of an explosive circuit-breaker. It has been found that the initial phase of disconnection is not dependent on the speed of movement of the moving electrode and the maximum length of the intercontact gap. The high rate of voltage build-up and the current-limiting capacity are determined by the action on the arc of the highy-speed flow of the arc-suppression medium, the speed of which is considerably faster than the speed of movement of the moving electrode.
