The numerical research results have been presented to show the surface destruction of steel design elements of power installations in interacting with high temperature chemically active flows. Mechanisms revealed testify that surface destruction takes place with no direct chemical erosion process and is a result of the appearance of high tangent and axial compression stresses in the thin layer near the boundary of metal-gas flow. The results obtained have been experimentally confirmed.
