INFLUENCE OF OPTICAL AND THERMAL BLEACHING ON POSITRON ANNIHILATION IN IRRADIATED KBr

    Abstract

    A comprehensive study is reported in which positron annihilation, optical absorption, and thermally stimulated luminescence (thermoluminescence) were used to study the processes of accumulation and destruction of radiation defects in KBr crystals with 1 mol% Li. These crystals were irradiated with x-rays at 300 K in doses of 10**4-10**6 GR. The angular distributions of pairs of photons were determined in an annihilation spectrometer. An investigation of the radiation-induced optical absorption spectra showed that only the F and V//2 color centers accumulated effectively in KBr:Li crystals and this was in agreement with the results of earlier investigations.
