Abstract

An experimental investigation into the effect of impulse electron-beam irradiation of the sintered TiC/NiCr hard alloy on its wear resistance while cutting steel was performed. The microstructure of the surface layer, surface roughness, and transverse rupture strength of the alloy were studied after irradiation. Changes in the microstructure and in the properties of the material were shown to be the result of the interaction of the carbide particles with the liquid metal binder under high rates of heating and cooling of the surface layer.
