Abstract
A new RP HPLC method for the separation of amino, nitro and hydroxy derivatives of 2- and 4-substituted biphenyls as model genotoxic compounds and their metabolic products has been developed. A newly designed amperometric platinum tubular detector was employed to obtain lower detection limit than with the classical UV detector. The method has been applied to the monitoring the destruction efficiency of the studied genotoxic compounds in laboratory waste, as well as to the determination of 2-hydroxybiphenyl content in tomatoes and in human urine.
