How preliminary electrization of polyethylene influences its service life in an electric impulse field

Abstract

The pulse electric strength of dielectrics depends on the voltage of dc current impressed preliminarily. One of methods for the adjustment of the field in polyethylene of low density (PELD) is shown. The thickness of samples was 0,63 mm, voltage amplitude of positive or negative polarity varied from 15 to 43kV, time lag under voltage- 1-15 minutes. The service life test results have been presented. A conclusion has been made that the significant increase of the PELD service life may be obtained by the adjustment of the field distribution in a dielectric.
