Abstract
The GIMN special-purpose accelerator for gas-laser pumping by an ion beam of nanosecond duration is described. The voltage-pulse generator has a line-charging potential of 1.5 MV, a line energy capacity of 8 kJ, a pulse duration of 80 nsec, a current of 120 kA, and an output-pulse amplitude of 700 kV. The proton beam has a current density of 400 A/cm2, an energy of 1 MeV, and a pulse duration of 80 nsec. The specific gas-medium pumping power reaches 109 W/cm3.
