Generation of 99Mo on an IRT-T reactor

Abstract

The specific activity of 99Mo can be increased by irradiation with both thermal and resonance neutrons in a beryllium trap of an IRT-T medium-flux reactor for non-waste production of sorption generators of 99m Tc. The target irradiation geometry was optimized by the Monte-Carlo method. The calculations were validated by experiments. Recommendations on the target preparation were given.
