Abstract

Formation of surface microstructures in austenitic and ferritic materials under conditions of severe friction has been investigated. Surface layer (20+40 μm in thickness) with fragmented structure has been found for specimens studied to be the result of the adhesive friction and seizure. Plastic flow of this layer defines tribotechnical properties of materials in friction and wear.
