Formation of structures of porous ceramics from powders

Abstract

Process of manufacturing the porous ceramic materials from nanocrystalline powders of zirconium dioxide by method of pressing and sintering has been considered. Structures, phase compositions, and properties of the ZrO2 powders produced in plasma-chemical process have been investigated. Results of the investigations have shown behaviour of the powder during pressing and sintering. It has been noted even low pressure of 50 MPa leads to intensive destruction of structural elements of the powder. Active interaction between nanocrystalline particles causes formation of porous structure.
