Experimental study of the reaction between epoxy compounds and titanium tetrachloride

Abstract

Reactions between epoxy compounds (phenyl glycidyl ether and butyl glycidyl ether, epichlorohydrine and propylene oxide) and titanium tetrachloride are studied. Is shown that epoxy ring-opening leads to the formation of corresponding Ti-alkoxides in which OTi-group attaches to the secondary carbon atom. The synthesis of phenyl glycidyl ether in the phase-transfer catalysis conditions in the presence of quaternary ammonium salts in the aqueou alkali at room temperature is elaborated.
