Abstract
In the present experiments the stresses are excited in solids by single electron pulses. The initial length of the stress pulses, which is governed by the ratio of the electron mean free path to the longitudinal sound velocity, is less than 10** minus **7 sec in the materials studied (Cu, Al, and ionic crystals). The stress is studied as a function of the number of electrons in the current pulse. The results for copper are given.
