Equilibrium CH acidity of arylacetylenes in dimethyl sulfoxide

Abstract

1. We measured the equilibrium CH acidity in DMSO of a series of para-substituted phenylacetylenes, 1- and 2-ethynylnaphthalene, 3- and 4-ethynylpyridines, and 2-ethynylpyrimidine. 2. A linear correlation between the pK and the Hammett σ constants of the substituents is fulfilled in the series of para-substituted phenylacetylenes and ethynylazines.
