Abstract
Sea buckthorn (Hippophae Rhamnoides L.) is widespread in Altai region of Russia. For centuries this plant is used as a medicinal agent. In the present work separation of water extract of sea buckthorn bark into the ellagitannic and alkaloid fractions was carried out and influence of these fractions on the lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine production by lymphocytes (in vitro) was investigated. The ellagitannic fraction revealed concentration-dependent cytotoxicity. The alkaloid fraction in concentrations less than 0.2 mg/ml caused an increase in the proliferation of lymphocytes and stimulated the cytokine production. In higher concentrations both alkaloid and ellagitannic fractions showed cytotoxic effect.
