Electron beam hard-facing of powder steel bonded carbides

Abstract

Composite coatings produced by electron beam hard facing process have been investigated. A microstructure of the coatings is like that of steel bonded titanium carbide. The coatings exhibit a high hardness resulted from hard carbide particles embedded into a steel matrix being quenched at the facing process.
