Abstract
An electric strength of polyoxide structure formed on surface of hard-facing alloy VK8 (92%WC-8%Co) under high-temperature oxidation has been investigated. It is shown that preliminary treatment by pulsed laser radiation has effect on the alloy oxidation kinetics. The correlation between electric strength of surface polyoxides and wear resistance of cutting tools manufactured from these alloys was established. It was found the preliminary laser treatment enhances the wear resistance of cutting tools.
