Efficiency of radiation technology of high-strength corundum-zirconium ceramics production

    Abstract

    The sintering of corundum-zirconium ceramics at thermal and electron-beam heating is studied; in the case of electron-beam heating the sintering temperature being lowered by 250-300°C. The modified electron-beam action on thermally sintered ceramics is shown to result in its mechanical strengthening. The high efficiency of radiation modification of corundum-zirconium ceramics is established. The production of tool ceramics with improved. Mechanical characteristics (flexible strength 1144 MPa) is shown to be promising from technological point of view.
