Efficiency of dispersion of Al2O3-(ZrO2+Y2O3) powders prepared by plasmochemical method

Abstract

The powders of Al2O3-(ZrO2+Y2O3) system were treated using mechanical, electric pulse, and ″explosive″ dispersion under the action of ammonium nitrate in the process of the plasmochemical decomposition. The oxide particles forming in the plasma synthesis are fractured due to the explosive character of ammonium nitrate thermolysis. The powders fractional composition and morphology are studied using electron microscopy. As shown, the ″explosive″ dispersion of the powders results in sharp improvement of the sintered ceramics quality.
