Abstract
The kinetic equation method is used to investigate the effect of virtual cathode (VC) oscillations on the condition for development of an electron beam instability in a reflex triode having a VC. The dependences of the frequency spectrum of the excited oscillations, the increments and the threshold parameters on the frequency of the oscillating electrons, the nonlinearity coefficient and the system geometry are analyzed. It is shown that the excitations of electromagnetic oscillations in systems with a VC and in the Barkhausen-Kurtz oscillator are different. Theoretical and experimental results are compared.
