Abstract
Transparent magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4, MAS) ceramics doped with different Tb4O7 concentrations from 0,1 to 5 wt% were fabricated by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) technique at temperature 1300 °C and uniaxial pressure 140 MPa. The diffuse transmittance of the undoped and Tb4O7-doped MAS-ceramics samples in visible spectral range reaches 65,32% and 54,7% (at λ = 600 nm) respectively. The microhardness varies from 16,62 ± 0,46 to 17,29 ± 0,34 GPa. The effect of terbium oxide on the optical and mechanical properties of MgAl2O4-based transparent ceramics is discussed.
