Dipyridine Salts of closo-Borate Anions B6H6 2- and B12H12 2-

Abstract

Dipyridine salts [HBipy]2B12H12 and [HBipy]B6H7 were synthesized and studied by IR spectroscopy. An X-ray diffraction study of [HBipy]2B12H12 was carried out. The crystals are triclinic, space group p 1̄, a = 8.689(3) Å, b = 8.838(2) Å, c = 9.397(3) Å, α = 93.66(2)°, β = 112.04(3)°, γ= 109.19(2)°, V= 617.1(4) Å3, Z = 1. The IR spectral data show that the hydrogen atom of the NH group of the dipyridine cation forms local multicenter bonds with the boron atoms of the closo-dodecahydroborate anion. The spectral data imply that the 7 hexaborate dipyridine salt synthesized contains the closo-B67- anion; this is in accordance with the data of the elemental analysis.
