Corrosion control of steel articles with dynamic infra-red thermography

Abstract

An algorithm for quantitative determination of material entrainment degree during metal item corrosion from results of the thermographic examination is described. An analysis of experimental data for the steel plates with 3 mm thickness showed that the acceptable accuracy of defectometry is attained at the corrosion more than 20% of full wall thickness. The simple inversion formula is suggested to estimate the corrosion degree from surface temperature field values.
