Comparative estimates for populations of valence orbitals of chlorine atoms in complexes

    Abstract

    The populations of valence orbitals of chlorine atoms in complexes SnCl4L2, SbCl5L, and TiCl4L2 were estimated by nuclear quadrupole resonance and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. It is shown that an increase in the negative charge on chlorine atoms upon formation of the main group element complexes can only be explained by taking into account the change in the geometry of an acceptor.
