Abstract
The basic characteristics of the bitumens isolated from the solid residues of the low-temperature (100-450°C) thermolysis of peat have been studied. A hypothesis is put forward concerning a number of the chemical processes taking place in the bitumens when peat is heated. It has been concluded that the main indices of the extracts isolated correspond to the requirements of TU [Technical Specification] 6-01-973-75, and the possibility of their practical use has been substantiated. The possibility of controlling the properties of the waxes has been shown.
