Abstract
Small-size focal spots of bremsstrahlung radiation in a cyclic charged particle acceleratorcan can be obtained using betatron oscillations of particles in a beam spilled onto a target having small dimensions. Quantitative estimates of the probability that electrons will strike the target, target holder, or the injector anode are obtained for a MH-6 (PXB-6) betatron. Experiments confirmed the possibility of obtaining a 0.1 × 0.1 mm2 focal spot, with up to 80% of the accelerated electrons striking the target.
