Analysis of voltage-variation results of Taiwan Power System connected with a ring-type high-capacity offshore wind farm

Abstract

This paper presents the voltage-variation results at the point of common coupling (PCC) when a high-capacity doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG)-based offshore wind farm (OWF) of 403.2 MW or 288 MW is connected to different buses of the neighboring onshore substation of Taiwan Power System through three or two submarine cables and underground cables. The voltage variations at the PCC under different lengths of submarine cable and various capacities of the studied OWF are also compared. A commercial power-system simulation software of PSS/E is utilized to simulate the voltage-variation results at PCC when the studied OWF with different capacities is connected to one of the selected buses under different lengths of submarine cable. It can be concluded from the simulation results that some buses with strong (weak) strength can exhibit smaller (larger) values on voltage variation at PCC after the studied OWF is connected to Taiwan Power System.
