In the suburb of the city of Tomsk an experimental industrial production of modified birch wood will be created by scientists from Tomsk Polytechnic University. An own technology allows impregnating wood with fire-resistant, waterproof substances and dyes. Unlike existing counterparts the polytechnicers’ technology wood is impregnated throughout its volume, not only the surface layers. Therefore, treated birch board does not burn even if it is poured with gasoline. Recently, the science team has won a grant from the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology (Bortnik Foundation) in the amount of 15mln rubles to open the experimental industrial site. The production is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2017.
